Arts for Act
Join Arts for ACT Gallery located at 2265 First Street in downtown Fort Myers on Friday, February 01, 2008, from 7 to 10 pm for its artful evening opening artist’s reception for February. Catered by Sweet Treats Gourmet Eatery stationed on Sanibel at 2430 Periwinkle Way and Norman Love Chocolates!!
Three dynamic women artists not to be missed, each with unique styles and subject matters, will give you feelings of nostalgia, happiness, romance, wonder and even sadness. Dress in a vintage outfit or as your favorite Hollywood icon. The best vintage costume will be awarded a prize from vintage artist Myra Roberts.
Myra Roberts is a prominent Sanibel artist whose inspiration for this show came from Robert’s collection of vintage movie and screen magazines from the 1930’s through the 1950’s. Audrey Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and many other portraits will enchant you down memory lane.
Sissi Janku looks back to Europe with “Old World” architectural paintings. Come and view the new series that tends toward the abstract, with women playing a prominent part, reminding you of the vivid and energetic coloring of the Fauves movement. The mood is sweet, relaxed and sensual, with dreamlike escapes from conflicts and reality. All paintings are done with palette knife in oil or acrylic.
Cindy Jane is an emerging artist who taught herself how to paint while trying different mediums, including oils, oil pastel, encaustic and pigment stick. Working in oil and mixed media, her paintings range in theme from the highly personal to the socio-political. They express emotions related to fertility, sexuality, alienation and oppression. She uses imagery that stems from her subconscious, visual memory and observation. Akin to Georgia O’Keefe, her paintings have an ethereal quality that borders on the surreal.
Come meet the the three artists and enjoy great art and light refreshments. Norman Love will have a sampling of his world famous CHOCOLATES at the artist reception and is being catered by Sanibel’s Sweet Treats Deli and Gourmet Eatery.
When: Friday, February 1st
Where: Arts for ACT in the Downtown area of the River District, Fort Myers
Time: 7:0 pm to 10:00 pm

The Dixie Strollers do their part to revive Downtown Fort Myers
Eighteen months ago, Gerry French, the creator and
manager of the Dixie Ragtimers, suggested to the
Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency that if Dixieland
music was played on a regular schedule once a week it
could, with time and patience, create the same ambiance
visitors experience when they visit New Orleans.
Gerry suggested that a small (4-piece) strolling
version of his Dixie Ragtimers, known as the Dixie
Strollers, play while strolling down First Street in the
Downtown area every Friday night from 6:30 to 8:15
pm. Gerry emphasized that consistency (every week)
is the secret to creating the “ambiance” that exists in
New Orleans. Once you have established this ambiance,
the patrons will not only enjoy it but they will
expect it.
